On Saturday, January 4, as more than 20,000 performers took part in the Cape Town Street Parade. The Tweede Nuwe Jaar, or Second New Year, celebration brought together thousands of people to honor a long-standing tradition that’s deeply rooted in Cape Town’s history. Originally, it was the only day that slaves had off, and they used it to celebrate, bond, and express their cultural identity. Today, this vibrant event continues to be a powerful display of heritage and community spirit.
