Today marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Nelson Mandela. Upon his release, he addressed a massive crowd at the Grand Parade from the City Hall in Cape Town. I wasn’t old enough to understand or remember the gravity of the moment. Recently I’ve been very busy at work. But, I still felt I needed to post something in honour of the day and the sacrifices made by Nelson Mandela. After all, he chose to be a peacemaker despite spending 27 years in prison simply because he fought for racial equality. The photo below is of the President next to a statue of Nelson Mandela.

I got to witness part of South Africa’s current president’s speech live. And he spoke about how South Africans helped free Nelson Mandela through continuously protesting and never forgetting him. Right now South Africa is facing many socio-economic challenges and I hope we can all come together and somehow find our fighting spirit to once again free ourselves.
