My Instagram posts have made it to the top posts section. I’m going to be sharing how I was able to get my photos in the top posts section as it helps attract attention to my Instagram account. Following these steps will hopefully help you gain more Instagram followers as well. This allows you to expand your blog audience also as you can add the link to your blog in your Instagram account profile.
What makes a Top post on Instagram?
If you have a large number of your followers engaging in your posts it boosts your post. The time it takes for your followers to respond to your posts and using hashtags which are less used which fit your audience all add to whether your post becomes a top post.
Use less popular hashtags
The Top posts area is linked to your hashtags and if you use a hashtag on your post which isn’t used often it will immediately push your post to the top post area of that hashtag. If you use hashtags that are wildly popular only you have to realize that there are millions of people posting photos using that hashtag. This means that it is much harder for you to compete. And you will struggle to get enough likes and comments from your Instagram followers to push your post on to the top posts section. The posts below are examples of less popular hashtags allowing posts to make it to the top section.
Mix it up
That being said it’s important to mix up your hashtags. Combine more popular hashtags with less used ones will broaden your audience. This will allow you to gain more likes, comments and followers. It could also allow your post to get featured by another feed. The images below are examples of this.
Ask for comments
You can ask your followers a question in the caption of your post. Make a joke, tell a story and link it to a question. This opens up space for your followers to comment. The engagement of your followers with your post will help determine whether your post makes it to the top section.
It’s about timing
Post at different times in the day to see what is the best time for you to post on Instagram. For most people, it’s on weekends and in the evening from 7 till 9pm. For me, it’s in the morning though I have food that my followers don’t engage in my posts much at night.
Experiment with hashtags
Don’t use the same hashtags over and over again. You won’t be drawing in new followers by doing this and that means your posts won’t make it into the top section. Experiment with different hashtags it will increase your range.
Use a lot of hashtags
According to Instagram “You can’t include more than 5 @ mentions in a single comment. You can’t include more than 30 hashtags in a single comment. But you can cheat the system. You can post 30 hashtags in your comments section, and another 30 to your original caption of the post. If you want to do this follow the instructions below in exact order:
- Post your photo or video on to Instagram. Make sure there are zero hashtags in the original caption of your post.
- Immediately copy and paste 30 related hashtags into a comment of your photo or video
- Edit your photo’s or videos original caption.
- You can add up to 30 additional hashtags to your photo’s original caption.
Be friendly, kind and engage
In real life, you probably thank people who are helpful do the same with your Instagram followers. Thank them for commenting. Take critique with an open mind unless it’s rude then block the person. Otherwise be kind be engaging and friendly. Like photos of your followers which you like and comment on theirs too.
Post good photos
This should be obvious. You need to post photos that fit with your theme which are high quality. I don’t have an amazing camera. I use my Nokia 5 phone for photos I take now. And on my travels, I used an old blackberry till it died then an old Samsung which also died. I also used my tablet and my Nikon camera which doesn’t have different lenses etc. All you have to do is edit your photos find the balance don’t over edit just enhance. Snapseed is an awesome app that I use and PicsArt. Although I prefer Snapseed you can download both from the Google play store.
